Bethel Christian School exists to provide a centre for Christian education encompassing Learning, Ministry and Evangelism. This philosophy is reflected in our school motto "Sanctified in spirit, soul and body" We are committed to providing a caring, supportive environment for spiritual and academic growth.
At Bethel Christian School we endeavour to show our regard for every member of the school community. This includes students and parents, teachers and office staff, as well as many support personnel who help in a myriad of areas.
Our Christian faith based on the Bible permeates every area of school life and forms a basis in every curriculum area. We are committed to giving witness to the teachings of Jesus Christ.
Through the spiritual and academic program of this school we aim to -
a) Develop in children a knowledge and awareness of God in their lives. To this end we have developed a comprehensive Doctrinal program and provide opportunities for children to practice their faith.
b) Enrich the spiritual life of the school community. To this end we provide opportunities to foster and deepen prayer life and encourage a deepening of personal relationships with God.
c) Enhance the relationship between school, church and home. To this end we complement and support church life and reach out into the local community through school programs.
d) Challenge each child to reach full potential. To this end we recognize and address individual needs, as well as provide opportunities which cater for a variety of aspects of the child’s development and endeavour to prepare the child for secondary education.
e) Maintain and strengthen the quality of teaching and learning. We will create a secure, positive learning environment as we provide for the ongoing professional development of staff and ensure that supervision structures cater for the needs of each staff member, as we formulate and implement the staff development policy.
f) Utilise curriculum practices which enhance teaching and learning. To this end we will endeavour to ensure that Key Learning Areas (KLAs) fulfil requirements of the Board of Studies, ensure that there is ongoing planning of programs, assessment of children and evaluation of teaching, review and evaluate regularly all curriculum and policy documents establish structures to evaluate and implement, if practical and consistent with the ethos of the school, current trends in education.
g) Be sensitive to cultural, social, economic and intellectual diversity. To this end we give teachers access to information regarding family backgrounds and the specific needs of each student develop programs which encourage co-operation and acceptance.
h) Create an environment in which all members of the community are accepted, respected and valued. To this end we celebrate and affirm community achievement, evaluate existing discipline policies and procedures provide opportunities for parents and teachers to meet socially.
i) Identify the needs of the school community and provide appropriate support structures. To this end we have developed a Critical Incidents Plan seek to ensure that procedures and programs are sensitive to those with financial burdens identify and seek support for children and families requiring special care. Develop a referral directory for use by the School Community.
j) Because we value leadership which is creative, visionary and reflective while seeking to promote justice, equity, honesty and compassion, we aim to develop structures for the effective management and use of human and material resources. To this end we explore ways to identify and utilise the available knowledge, talents, gifts and expertise of the school community develop a plan for the maintenance and beautification of the physical environment of the school. Budget for the updating of resources according to identified priorities implement a resource and equipment management plan.
k) Engage in shared leadership and decision-making as appropriate. To this end we clarify roles and decision making processes within the school involve staff in processes which build agreement and unity of purpose.
l) Create an environment which builds positive staff relationships. To this end establish and maintain clear and open communication structures implement an induction program for new staff clarify and communicate the processes and criteria for the selection and allocation of staff.
m) Parents are an integral and valued part of the learning process therefore we aim to promote parental involvement in school life and the educational process. To this end we explore and implement ways to involve parents encourage parents to become active participants in their children’s education. Provide opportunities for dialogue between staff and parents.
n) Maintain and strengthen the relationships between and within the parent body. To this end review roles and structures of school groups periodically explore ways of increasing their effectiveness.
o) Promote and maintain an open, friendly and effective communication network within the school community. To this end provide opportunities for parents to learn about their child’s education review communication, such as reports and newsletters from school to home periodically assess effectiveness of communication.
